Gatsby is clearly an inspirational novel; it inspired a diamond collection (see Lina's post below), a fragrance line, two movies, and a song...
This song was written by a High School senior who loved "The Great Gatsby" and was an aspiring song writer. Notice the many references to "TJ's eyes". The writer is most likely referring to the eyes of Doctor TJ Eckleburg that watch over the valley of ashes. Do you notice anything else about the song? Do you agree with the writer's interpretation of Daisy's role in Gatsby's death? Why or why not?

That was honestly really good so props to who ever made that. I think there is a lot more behind Eckleburg than we got a chance to cover in class, but aside from that, one of the lines from the song made me open up my eyes to the potential meaning behind Nick's last name and how it can be interpreted as taking every "care away." I feel like throughout almost the entire novel, until those last two pages, Nick really has almost no ambitions or cares in the world and just flows with whats going on. I just thought it was really cool how the guy who wrote this song found a unique way to interpret Nick's name and I'm pretty sure if you want to hear it the line is somewhere around 3:57.
ReplyDeleteI really liked when he said "these eggs are scrambled"; I think this is a funny way of expressing the fighting going on between the West Eggers and East Eggers. I also liked the line about the scarlet A. I forgot that the adults are actually committing adultery even though it's not looked down upon like in The Scarlet Letter. I think the writer did a great job of showing Gatsby's love and obsession with Daisy.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the line "you're across the bay but I can't let go". It reminded me of the last line of the novel. It reminds me of the way that all of the characters are refusing to let go of the past. I also liked the line "I'd leave this town if it meant you loved me". I think this shows how Gatsby is really determined to get Daisy to love him. He wants her to rewind to the past and run away with him, but she can't.
