Gatsby Sales, Covers, and More

I found this video and article by the New York Times about the Gatsby's increase in sales and popularity since the movie trailers have been released. Clearly we are more motivated to read an old book more just because a new movie is coming out. I also found it interesting that the old cover is selling more than the new cover with the actors on it. I think it is a good sign that people still want to read the book and not just watch the movie!

  1. I thought it was interesting that the e-book was out-selling both paperback versions of the Great Gatsby.
Reading Gatsby, there is certainly a divide between old and new.
One quote that I found particularly interesting was when Tom said, "I've heard of making a garage out of a stable,...but I'm the first man who ever made a stable out of a garage" (119). In this case, Tom is living in the past (building a home for horses) while others modernize with car garages.
The modern e-book selling more than the traditional paperback shows a change in reading.
Personally, I'm a fan of the traditional paperback book because I like looking at cover art and opening pages. Whatever your opinion may be, the theme of old vs. new in The Great Gatsby is timeless. There will always be a battle between traditional and modern lifestyles/ideals/technology/skills/etc.
