Mondegreen

"Mondegreen" by Yeasayer. Thoughts? (The lyrics are below)

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
Tune in, tune in, tune in, tune in

I just can't justify your love

I'm just too scared to watch tv
Cause in the glass, static's all I see
Melted faces
And in the mirror speaking tongues
As I hear a siren travelin' by
I can't wake up, I try and I try

Everybody sugar in my bed
Everybody clouds up in my head
Everybody disastrous
Everybody all after us
Everybody everybody everybody everybody...

Everybody's talkin' 'bout me and my baby
Makin' love til the mornin' light
Makin' love til the mornin' mornin' light
Makin' love til the mornin'

1, 2, 3, 4
5, 6; 5, 6
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
5, 6; 5, 6
1, 2, 3, 4

I just can't justify my thoughts
Draw symbols on the carpted parking lots
Perhaps the pollen in the air
Turns into a stapler
Poppin' pills to stay awake
But all them pills make me shake
Shiver shout and run about
But all the time I want to cry out

Everybody sugar in my bed
Everybody clouds up in my head
Everybody disastrous
Everybody all after us
Everybody everybody everybody everybody...

Everybody's talkin' 'bout me and my baby
Makin' love til the mornin' light
Makin' love til the mornin' mornin' light
Makin' love til the mornin'

Be my sunshine
When the dark clouds rumble
And together we can
Try to avoid trouble
And we'll run to somewhere
Where the grass grows greener
And the water's clearer
And our blood flows cleaner

  1. The lyrics are interesting to say the least. I am not sure thought how the song relates to the definition "a word or phrase resulting from a misinterpretation of a word or phrase that has been heard". The only think that I can think of is that since the lyrics are kind of random that gives a sense of uncertainty to the listener. Also, the parts in which the singer is saying numbers is a little confusing because you aren't sure what he is trying to convey.

  2. I think that the song relates to a mondegreen because the lyrics are so random that it sounds like the person writing them didn't know what any of the words to the song were and just wrote down what they thought they heard. The entire song sounds like someone misinterpreted the words.

  3. Also, when you listen to the song you can't understand all the words the singer is saying. It's one of those songs that definitely needs to have the lyrics below it. The song reminded of Chinese songs. In Chinese there are four tones to use when saying a word, yet in songs it's hard to use the tones correctly because an artist wants the beat and words to mix well together. Instead of saying every word with the write tone, they put the chinese characters at the bottom of the music video.

  4. i also think that this without the song lyrics right beneath, the song lyrics are extremely difficult to understand, and easily confused. I think that was the main reason why they constructed this song was to make it soo its one song but it is a different song to almost each listener (if that makes any sense). not everyone is hearing the same lyrics when they listen to the song and it leaves it open to a large possible array of meanings combined with the tone of the song and the beat.
